This page contains answers to common questions handled by our support staff, along with some tips and tricks that we have found useful and presented here as questions.

QUESTION:  How do I contact you?

 ANSWER: Just phone 847-882-9590

QUESTION: Do I need a back up sump pump?

ANSWER: Everyone in the Chicago land area should have a battery powered back up sump pump. Chicago is the sump pump capitol of the United States. More pumps are sold here than anywhere else in the country.

QUESTION: Can I just use a whole house generator for protection?

ANSWER:  You could…but if you do, there will be no protection against your primary sump pump failing. All primary sump pumps fail. It is a matter of when, not if.

QUESTION: Can I just use my back up as my primary sump pump?

ANSWER: You could…but if you do, there will be no protection against your back up pump sucking in unwanted debris and failing. If the goal is not to flood, two pumps are much better than one!

QUESTION: Can Rapid Maintenance supply us with a battery that doesn’t always need distilled water added?

ANSWER:  Yes. We use a battery that is a 200 amp dual purpose battery that is low maintenance and low gas emission. The battery actually traps the low amount of gas emitted and rehydrates the battery. It should only need distilled water added every two to three years!

QUESTION:  How long should my battery last?

ANSWER: We recommend changing your battery every 4-5 years. A battery is a very cheap source of back up energy and you wouldn’t want to fall short in operating time.

QUESTION:  Are these types of products unreasonably expensive?

ANSWER:  Absolutely not. If the typical homeowner carries a flood insurance policy, in most cases you will have a $1000.0 deductible. And most insurance companies will drop your coverage if you flood twice in five years. Back up sump pumps as a rule are anywhere from $600.00 to $1000 installed complete.
